Woodwork Repairs
Who doesn't love watching The Repair Shop on TV? Bringing things back to life that people think are too far gone is a joy to watch. There is usually something that can be done to mend your precious item of woodwork when disaster strikes. A range of repair services are offered for all types of wooden products. As The Repair Shop has proven, things don't have to be worth lots of money to be valuable- you can't put a price on something that has a personal connection to you. 110 year Old Mandolin
Made by the Neopolitan luthier, Francesco Donadoni circa 1910. It had several areas of structural repairs that were required before the aesthetic refurbishment could start. I was able to match the binding that had all but given up over the years. The soundboard was repaired as was the crack in the fingerboard. All hardware was removed and cleaned, so too was the scratch guard. I try to maintain as much of the original features as possible in order to keep it authentic. It is a bowlback mandolin made from beautiful rosewood.
Edwardian Piano Stool
This was rescued from a skip. When I received it, it was covered in green paint and had broken apart, as can be seen in the photographs. So began the painstaking process of removing every bit of paint that had seeped into the veneers. Every joint had to be taken apart as the glue had failed. The tilting music storage units were repaired and the seat was upholstered.
Egyptian Cat Sculpture
This beautiful, large sculpture of a cat carved in an Egyptian style had seen better days. Years of fading and several instances of being knocked over had led to faded paintwork and 2 broken ears. New ears were carved and blended in to look seamless. New paint details were added and the whole thing was restained blue to match the original finish.
Refectory Table
The client for this table had downsized to an apartment which meant her dining table was now too large. They had commissioned it many years ago and it was made by a renowned craftsman in the local area. It had carvings which were of significance to the client on each of the legs. They wanted to keep the table but reduce it in size. I sympathetically modified it to make it look as though it had always been that size. It required cutting the table top down, installing new fixings which still allowed the expansion and contraction that a solid wood table top requires. A new wedged mortise and tenon though joint was created and then everything was colour matched to create a seamless alteration.
